NSK Develops J-Type ROBUSTDYNA™ Bearings for Machine Tool Spindles
Ideal for Heavy Cutting and High-Speed Applications
NSK Ltd. has developed “ J-Type ROBUSTDYNA™ Angular Contact Ball Bearings. ”
The new J-Type line supports heavy cutting and high-speed performance in a single product for efficient machining of general and automotive parts, as well as a longer service life and reduced carbon emissions in manufacturing.
Production will begin in spring 2023, and NSK is targeting 2 billion yen in sales by 2026.
NSK will be exhibiting the new J-type line at “JIMTOF 2022 The 31st Japan International Machine Tool Fair” to be held from November 8-13, 2022.
Background
In recent years, machine tools have been required to meet demand for heavy-duty cutting in response to increasing utilization of difficult-to-cut materials such as titanium and composite materials, as well as for long-term, stable operation under low-maintenance or maintenance-free conditions.
To meet this demand, NSK aimed to develop a product that achieves both heavy-duty cutting and high-speed performance through higher load capacity.
Product Features
1. High load capacity
By optimizing the bearing's internal design, such as the use of larger diameter balls, the load capacity has been increased by 15% compared to conventional products *1 enabling heavy-duty cutting.

2. High speed performance
Optimization of internal specifications has realized high-speed performance equivalent to that of conventional products, enabling use in both low-speed and high-speed applications.
3. Longer operating life
Optimization of internal design and the use of NSK's proprietary long-life steel have resulted in service life up to six times longer than that of conventional products.
Other improvements in materials and manufacturing methods contribute to reduced carbon emissions and energy savings during manufacturing compared to the X-type ROBUSTDYNA bearings.
