Ball Screws
When Ball Screws reach their rolling fatigue life, scaly particles start to separate from the surface of the raceways and balls. This phenomenon is called "flaking".
In some cases, they suffer premature flaking or abnormal damage that may lead to machine failure. The cause of the problem includes careless handling, excessive misalignment, insufficient lubrication and contamination.
Sometimes the cause can be a combination of these. It is possible to prevent the recurrence of the same problem by making a thorough and complete investigation into a prematurely failed product, its way of handling, installation, maintenance history and any history the user can recall about the progress of the problem.
